Abbey Theatre hosts eclectic local stylings
Wild Blooms and Joy Wilson Band share the stage
… Fretless bassist and mandolin player, Jim Belcher, is also a familiar face in the local music scene for his work as a founding member of the Durango-based funk/soul project, Earthtone. Belcher has also toured and recorded with former Durango local and Fort Lewis College graduate Joy Wilson, who returns to Durango from Portland, Oregon to join Wild Blooms on stage this Friday at the Abbey Theatre.
Wilson said that Durango, once her hometown, always succeeds in drawing her back. “Durango’s like a boomerang. I always end up coming back,” she said.
Wilson’s style is difficult to pinpoint. “If I had to put it in a box and categorize it, I’d describe it as funky folk-rock, although it can change depending on whether I’m playing solo or with a seven-piece band,” Wilson said. “This performance will fall somewhere in the middle…”
